He is the author of \u00abThe Power Problem: How American Military Dominance Makes Us Less Safe, Less Prosperous, and Less Free\u00bb (Cornell University Press, 2009) and \u00abJohn F. Kennedy and the Missile Gap\u00bb (Northern Illinois University Press, 2004). <\/p>\n<p>He has also coedited several other books, including \u00abOur Foreign Policy Choices: Rethinking America\u2019s Global Role\u00bb, with Emma Ashford and Travis Evans (Cato Institute, 2016); \u00abA Dangerous World? Threat Perception and U.S. National Security\u00bb with John Mueller (Cato Institute, 2014); and, with Jim Harper and Benjamin Friedman, \u00abTerrorizing Ourselves: Why U.S. Counterterrorism Policy Is Failing and How to Fix It\u00bb (Cato Institute, 2010).<\/p>\n<p>Preble has published articles in major publications, including the New York Times, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Financial Times, National Review, The National Interest, and Foreign Policy, and is a frequent guest on television and radio.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his work at Cato, Preble teaches the U.S. foreign policy elective at the University of California, Washington Center.<br \/>\nBefore joining Cato in February 2003, he taught history at St. Cloud State University and Temple University.
